New Transport Infrastructure in Denmark
11th July 2024
The Danish Road Directorate, in collaboration with Banedanmark, who are responsible for Danish railways, is carrying out a strategic analysis of new transport infrastructure in the corridor across Lillebælt (the Little Belt sound) between Fyn and Jutland, covering both roads and rail. DMdB’s Douglas Manvell as independent noise expert assisted the consortium in the initial analysis phase of the project.
Measuring with Danish Technical University

At this year’s Environmental Acoustics module at the Danish Technical University’s Masters in Engineering DMdB’s director, Douglas Manvell, Visiting Lecturer at DTU, challenged over 30 students in the fine art of environmental noise measurements.
Predictor-LimA Product Training Held in UAE

DMdB held a very successful, intensive and extensive multi-day training of Envirozone in Abu Dhabi on using using the Predictor-LimA software from Softnoise with the aim of developing strategic environmental noise maps of a range of noise sources, utilising data from a network of noise monitoring terminals to help build, calibrate and improve the results.
Reappointed Treasurer of
I-INCE

As of 1st January 2024, Douglas Manvell, Founder and Director of DMdB, formally starts a new 4-year period as Treasurer of the International Institute of Noise Control Engineering (I-INCE), the key supporter of the INTER-NOISE conferences. Through this reappointment, DMdB continues to support I-INCE's work on the international exchange of noise control best practice.
DGMR and iNoise

DGMR Software and DMdB are proud to announce that they have signed a contract for DMdB to help DGMR Software its promotional and sales activities of iNoise. What a Week at Forum Acusticum 2023

Forum Acusticum 2023 has ended after 5 days, 1000 papers, 1200 attendees and 25 exhibitors. All aspects of acoustics were covered, providing a great opportunity to listen and learn, meet and greet, and present new developments. Held in Turin in Italy, the conference was intensive and busy.

In “Artificial Intelligence for Transport and Environmental Noise”, AI4TEN, now launched, DMdB supports Aarhus University investigate whether Artificial Intelligence (AI) can help improve traffic and environmental noise monitoring by testing and developing new, state-of-the-art AI models to monitor road transport and its induced noise.
Soundscaping at Danish Technical University

The 2023 Plenary Meeting of ISO Standards in Acoustics

For a week, over 80 experts gathered in Montreal, Canada, together with an additional 100 participating virtually, for the International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) Plenary to manage the committee’s more than two hundred standards. For the first time, the successful meeting gathered all its Sub Committees in one event.
Fellow of the UK Institute of Acoustics

DMdB’s founder and director, Douglas Manvell, is appointed as a Fellow of the UK’s Institute of Acoustics in recognition of his work in contributing to sharing of knowledge and experience at conferences, and in helping to improve standardisation in acoustics.
A fellowship is granted to those who have made significant contributions to acoustics.
Tonal Assessment ISO TS 20065

ISO's Tonal Noise Assessment Method has been updated, and published last month as ISO TS 20065.
The refined and better documented method describes how best to assess tonal noise in the environment and is now ready for widespread use in determining how tonal noise affects communities.

DMdB’s founder and director, Douglas Manvell, has been appointed as a member of the International Advisory Committee (IAC) for Internoise 2023 to be held in Chiba, Japan on 20-23 August.
This edition of the world’s largest annual international noise control conference is now open for abstract submission.
Sound in Urban Planning

Last week, the ISO PAS 1996-3 “Objective method for the measurement of prominence of impulsive sounds and for adjustment of LAeq” was published. This method to categorise sources of impulsive noise is now ready for use in determining how impulsive noise affects communities.

DMdB is proud to have helped MB Consultants review the environmental noise immission limits currently in use in several countries. This very interesting work resulted in, among other things, tabular summaries of noise limits at residential properties for the most important sources for key countries.

The Euroregio Baltic Nordic Meeting 2022 was held in Aalborg, Denmark. A member of the conference’s Scientific Committee, Douglas Manvell, founder of DMdB, also chaired a very interesting session on environmental noise and contributed with a presentation on international standards for environmental noise assessment.
